Choosing the right name for your dog is an important decision that influences their training, communication and bond with you. It will be the word you use every day to call them and train them. Therefore, the name should be short and easy to pronounce. Ideally, it should have one or two syllables.

Dogs recognise clear sounds better. Open vowels such as A or O help a lot. Consonants such as D, K, P, or R also work well. It is important to avoid names that resemble common commands. It is also not a good idea to use names that are very common in the park. This can cause confusion.

If it is a puppy, wait a few days before deciding. Observe its character and behaviour. The name should fit its personality. Once chosen, always use the same name. Do not change it or use different nicknames. This makes it easier for them to learn.

To teach them their name, start in a quiet place. Call them in a cheerful tone. When they respond, reward them. Repeat the exercise several times a day. Do it in different places and situations.

Never scold them using their name. During training, rewards help a lot. A snack reinforces good behaviour. This way, the dog learns faster and with enthusiasm.
